Community Service

Who Does the Community Service Program Benefit?
Our students can be found volunteering at Habitat for Humanity, the Humane Society of Greater Kansas City, as well as local soup kitchens and food pantries. These are only a few examples of the community service projects performed by our students.

What is the Community Service Program?
Students at University Academy are required to complete 100 hours of community service at a non-profit during over their junior and senior year. The Community Service Program is administered by Mr. Burdette. He will help make volunteer experiences more accessible to UA students through individual consultation, a record of current community service opportunities, and college connections postings.

Service programs offer students a greater knowledge of their community and help them develop greater confidence in their role as citizens. Volunteering provides early workplace skills as well as exposure to many different careers, as students work within non-profit organizations. Students benefit by the meaning that comes from doing real-world work. Community Organizations benefit from the genuine contributions made by students to the work of their organizations, and from the connections made with the schools in their community.

See the Upper School office, or call (816) 412-5948. Students can print out and complete the Community Service Form and contact the Upper School to discuss the numerous opportunities to help others in our community.
