    We look forward to working with you and answering any questions you may have. We also encourage you to complete an application and frequently check our job listings.
     
    To assist you, please follow the outline below.
    • Complete an application form (visit our Career Opportunities below and begin the process).
    • Submit an official transcript or a copy of all college or university credit.
    • Submit placement papers from your college placement office or three letters of recommendation from employer/colleagues, if not a recent graduate.
    • Submit a current resume.
    • Submit a copy of your teaching certificate.
     
    Your file will be considered complete when all of the above documents are received. Should an opening occur in the area for which you are certified, applications in that subject area will be reviewed. You will be contacted should you be selected as a candidate to be interviewed.
     
    Your application will remain active for one calendar year from the date of receipt. Following the receipt of your application to the human resources department, you need not contact the department unless you want to notify us of a change or to request withdrawal or renewal of your application. If you wish to apply for a different vacancy, please notify the department in writing of the position for which you wish to apply.

    What factors are considered before hiring?
    Many criteria are reviewed prior to offering a candidate a position, including information contained in the candidate’s file, background experiences, education, reference checks, and responses received during the interview.

    What kind of communication can I expect during the process?
    If your qualifications meet the criteria for the position, you will be contacted by the human resources department or the building administrator/principal to schedule an interview.

    Does my educational experience make me too expensive to be hired? Have I taught too many years to be hired?
    No. University Academy is looking for the best match of a teaching applicant to the available opening. We hire people with many years of teaching experience, as well as first year teachers. Likewise, we hire teachers with bachelor’s degrees as well as candidates with advanced degrees. Starting Teacher Salaries

    How will I be notified if I am to be hired?
    The hiring process is ongoing. If you have been interviewed for a specific position, you will receive notification of your status when a candidate has been selected. Unsuccessful candidates who interview will be notified in writing to let them know that the position has been filled.

    What are staff hours?
    The teacher workday is from 7:00am to 3:30pm and student hours are from 7:30am to 2:40pm.

  • Employee Student Loan Assistance Program

    What is it?
    University Academy Co-Founders, Shirley and Barnett Helzberg have pledged up to $1,000,000 over 10 years to help UA employees pay down student loans.  They know how important our incredible staff and faculty is to the continued success of the school.  To that end, they hope this perk helps to recruit and retain the very best educators.  

    Employees will be eligible for up to $12,000 over five years in student loan payments.  These extra payments will be made directly to the student loan servicing company and will be in addition to the employee’s regular payment.  This benefit will save employees on interest costs and reduce the time of repayment.

  • Substitute Information

    University Academy announces our new partnership with Flexible Educators who will recruit, hire, train, and manage our substitute teachers and support staff beginning November 18, 2019. 

    Flexible Educators provides weekly pay, benefits for those who qualify, and opportunities to work at various charter schools around the area.  They welcome any current or potential substitutes at University Academy to apply on their website, flexibleeducators.com, or call 660-646-6500.

  • Food Service Openings

    Cook: Full-time Monday-Friday 6:00am-1:00pm.  Breakfast, batch and casserole experience.  Must have food handlers card. 

    Food Service Worker: Part-time Monday-Friday 9:00am-1:00pm.  Prepare sandwiches and salads, serve on line.

    Dishwasher/Utility: Monday-Friday 7:30am-2:00pm.

Career Opportunities

University Academy is seeking highly effective, highly qualified and highly motivated individuals to join our team. Ideal candidates will have experience in urban education and be committed to our four core values: 1) Have high expectations for ourselves and others, 2) Respect others' time and talents, 3) Communicate honestly, directly, respectfully and timely and 4) Be a role model. Starting teacher salary is $45,000 with the potential to receive up to a 5% merit increase each year. Here is an example of what a beginning teacher's salary might look like in 5 years with a 5% raise annually:
