This fall begins my nineteenth year of teaching high school English. I earned my undergraduate degree at Sarah Lawrence College and my teaching credentials at Rockhurst University. After beginning graduate work at Northwestern University, I moved to Louisiana and finished my Master of English degree at Southeastern Louisiana University. This year I am pleased to be teaching Comparative Literature (Juniors), College Reading (Seniors), and English 110 and 214 through the UMKC Dual-Credit program.
My classes primarily focus on critical thinking, close reading, speaking, and writing. Through the study of literature, students are asked to process information, synthesize ideas, and reach their own conclusions. All assessments include some form of writing, and many are writing alone. My goal is for University Academy students to graduate writing at the college level, ready to take on their humanities classes with confidence and the necessary skills for success.
