Online Learning

Dear Parents and Guardians,

We just want to start by saying that online learning is new for all of us, especially since we work with your children in the small group setting.  Mrs. King and myself are here to support you, your children, and our colleagues as best as we can! Please let us know if you have any questions or if we can help in any way throughout this process.  The most important thing is for your child to read to or with you EVERY night for about 20 minutes.  You reading to them is helpful as well, as you'll be a good model.  If it's a longer book, you could take turns on pages.  Also, be sure to discuss what was read. We have added resources for the younger learners in grades K-2 and the older learners in grades 3-5.

Kinder parents- Mrs. King has included a couple of websites for games that help with sounds and sight words.  They look fun, so please try to find time for your child to explore.

1st and 2nd grade parents- Your child has access to RAZ Kids.  It is a program they should be familiar with which includes them reading a short story and answering comprehension questions.  If they are stuck on a word, the program can help them with it.  Their teacher has the site loaded with the level your child is currently on.

The listed websites have activities for your child as well.

3rd, 4th, and 5th graders!

I have added lots of resources for you to listen to books online and some websites that provide quizzes or games as well. It is important to read out loud so that you can hear yourself. This way if you make a mistake or the word doesn't sound right you can use your decoding strategies like pounding and tapping out a word.

*Also, I would love to hear from you! Let's start with a little journal writing,  if you'd like to send me an email I would love to know how you are feeling about University Academy being closed. UA along with all the schools in Missouri, Kansas, as well as schools all over the United States are closed due to the Corona virus or COVID19. Tell me what things you are doing at home, what you see when you are outside, and how this whole experience is making you a stronger person. You are living through history right now and I am excited to hear from you!

Mrs. King and I hope you spend some quality time with your family reading during this online learning adventure. We are available for questions M-F from 8:00-3:00, so please do not hesitate to send us an email!
