I was born and raised in Kansas City, Missouri. I attended the University of Missouri, Kansas City, where
I earned a Bachelor of Arts in Education. I attended Webster University, where I
earned a Master’s Degree in English as a Second Language. I hold certification
as an ESL instructor. I also attended Central Missouri University, where I
earned certification in Library Sciences. I currently have a life time
certification in Elementary Education. I have been in education for 26 years. I come with a wealth of knowledge and experience. I enjoy reading
biographies about interesting people. I enjoy jogging, playing tennis, watching
tennis, the CHIEFS, and
spending time with my family and friends. This will be my 8th year at University
Academy. Before coming to University Academy, I taught 3rd grade for seven
years, fourth grade for two years and I worked as a Library Media Specialist for
seven years with the KCMO School District. I have also taught 6th grade Language
Arts for several years.
My Philosophy and Expectations
I believe that every child is capable of
learning, but not all children learn in the same way. I believe that children
need to feel safe and successful in their classroom. They also need to know how
much they mean to our classroom community. I expect good attitudes and kindness
toward others at all times. Failure to make choices consistent with these
expectations will have consequences. I believe that parents and teachers must
work together in order to have the greatest impact on a child’s learning and
love of learning.
