Changing Up the Game!

Greetings parents,

It’s very easy to get caught up in rhetoric. In the last year, I have heard, again and again, about the amount of time our children spend with their electronic devices. I want to change the stereotype that is placed on the computer science “geek,” a fairly quiet young guy, digitally savvy yet socially awkward, who prefers the company of online role-playing games and instant noodles to nights out and fine dining.

Coding (also called programming or developing) is telling a computer, app, phone or website what you want it to do. Learning to code prepares kids for the world we live in today. There are tons of jobs and occupations that use code directly, like web designers, software developers and robotics engineers, and even more where knowing how to code is a huge asset—jobs in manufacturing, nanotechnology or information sciences.

All in all, the skills that come with computer programming help kids develop new ways of thinking and foster problem-solving techniques that can have big repercussions in other areas. Encourage your children to code!

Let’s Connect Our Children with Coding

This class is all about being interactive and working together. Many parents get excited when they hear about their children coding. However, sometimes the parents aren’t really sure about what exactly we’re doing in class. Let’s change that here and now!

In the chart below, I have listed the course code for each class, by the day and grade level. Once students get to this site they will select their name and enter in their password. If you ever need a student’s password for home use, please contact me and I will make sure you obtain it.

Ask your students to go to http://code.org/join and type in the section code (Listed in chart below)
