Math Units and Expectations

Math is broken up into 5 strands.  Numbers and Operations, Fractions, Geometry, Data and Measurement, and Algebraic Thinking. Listed below are the major topics we will study in 3rd grade.  Please be sure to check the website for our learning targets and units.  We will update this with more detailed information monthly. 

*Students will get Math Word Problems for homework to complete daily. It will be turned in on Friday.

Topics of Study (Major Units) 
Place value, estimation, and rounding numbers to 10,000. 
Addition and subtraction with numbers to 100,000
Multiplication and division facts
Multiplication with 2 or 3 factors times 1 factor
Multiplication of 10, 100, and 1000 
Division of a 2 digit number by a 1 digit divisor, with and without remainders
Equivalent fractions 
Fractions and their place on a number line
Comparing fractions with a like numerator, or a like denominator. 
Standard and metric measurement for volume, capacity, mass and distance. 
Creating and analyzing data. 
Categorizing polygons (i.e. quadrilaterals) and their features. 
Calculating area and perimeter
Telling time to the nearest 5 minutes. 
Solving word problems for all of the topics listed above.
