Mrs. Albright's Bio

My name is Bethni Albright.  I grew up in northeastern Oklahoma and moved to Kansas City in 2003.  I graduated from Missouri Southern State University with a degree in Secondary Education, but quickly found myself drawn to teaching at the elementary level.  I have been teaching nearly 16 years, and I love it as much today as I did when I began.  I graduated with my Master's degree in 2011 in Curriculum and Instruction from UMKC and currently hold 4 certificates in teaching: Elementary, Middle School English, High School English, and Special Education.  In April 2014, I was accepted into Leading Educators.  This fellowship was an opportunity to learn from leading educators around the country!

This is my 4th year to teach Science as a subject-specialist.  This is also the 3rd year UA has been using the FOSS curriculum in 3rd - 5th grade.  FOSS is aligned to the Next Generation Science Standards and is a unique hands-on experience that allows the students to learn through discovery.  Although the students don't take the MAP test in Science until fifth grade, we begin learning and building on these concepts starting in 3rd grade.

I believe that the classroom is a safe place for students to grow, gain knowledge, and confidence necessary to be successful in all of their adventures.  I believe students in my classroom should have freedom with responsibility, and I encourage my students to be independent thinkers.  We all have qualities and knowledge that makes us unique, and we will practice positive ways to interact with others that do, too.
