Hello My Name Is...
Mrs. Anne Rellihan
Hi! My name is Anne Rellihan. This is my third year teaching 5th grade at University Academy and my tenth year working in education. This year I will be the reading teacher for all fifth graders. My favorite thing about teaching is helping students to become deep thinkers who can make connections between their own lives, the world around them, and the things that they read. Our class will focus on building those types of connections and writing about and discussing them.
I grew up in Lenexa, Kansas. I went to the University of Kansas where I graduated with bachelor's degrees in English and Journalism. After college, I moved to Chicago and taught third and fourth grade at a charter school in Gary, Indiana. During this time, I earned a master's degree in elementary education at Dominican University in Chicago. I've also taught fifth grade in New Orleans, worked as a coach for new teachers here in Kansas City, and have a second master's degree in education leadership from Columbia University's Teachers College in New York City.
When I'm not teaching, I spend most of my time with my husband, Andy, and our one-year-old son Will. I'm looking forward to a fun, productive, learning-filled year!
