The University Academy Board knows that good dental health, like good overall health contributes to the success of students in school. The U.A. Board also recognized that by having a dental clinic at the school, time missed from the classroom would be minimized and it would be a tremendous convenience for parents. University Academy's on-going relationship with Children’s Mercy Hospital led the Board to approach UMKC with the proposal that if U.A provided the space and equipment, that the UMKC School of Dentistry would provide the staff and supplies to make the dental clinic a reality. UMKC School of Dentistry Dean Marsha Pyle saw this as excellent opportunity to further fulfill the dental schools mission to serve the community and as an excellent opportunity to instill in students a commitment to serve the community.
The University Academy Dental Clinic has a general dentist office in school for students, and it is of NO COST to parents!
The Clinic is staffed by a full-time office manager who schedules appointments for students of University Academy during school hours. Patients are seen Monday through Thursday.
University Academy patients are treated by student doctor in the 3rd and 4th years of their education which means they are in full time patient treatment. In addition there is always a clinical Faculty assigned to supervise and direct treatment.
If individual patient needs are complex and outside of those provided in a general dental practice, parents will be advised so they may make arrangements for the appropriate referral.
