UA to Reopen to Staff on Oct 12
Posted on 09/29/2020

UA Parents and Families,

UA will reopen the building to staff working on campus on Monday, Oct. 12.  The building hours will be 7:00am - 2:30pm for staff.    We closed the building on September 30 after a number of staff members were deemed to potentially have been exposed to a COVID-10 positive person(s).  Luckily, no one involved tested positive.

University Academy Parents,

Over the past few days, University Academy has had 12 staff members exposed to a combination of possible and confirmed Covid-19 cases.   As of the writing of this email, we do not have a confirmed Covid-19 case among any staff members.

We also learned today that the high school volleyball team had a positive Covid case, and the middle school team has close contact who has also tested positive.  Anyone that was close (15 minutes within 6 ft) of any suspected case has been notified.   Some may be additionally contacted by the Health Department for contact tracing.

Out of abundance of caution, University Academy has decided to quarantine both the Upper School and Middle School volleyball teams, and close the building, effective today, Tuesday, September 29th. The building will reopen to staff on October 14th, 2020.

If you or your student have pre scheduled appointments with UA staff members, look for communication from those staff members to set up alternative arrangements.

NOTES:

Tuesday's meal distributions will continue as planned.   You may put in your order for those meals on our website.

Thursday's K-1 supplies distribution will continue as planned, outside from 11:00am - 2:30pm.

Practice ACT testing the next two Saturdays will be moved to a virtual setting.

Football will continue for the time being.  Contact tracing did not show a link to any players or coaches and the football teams use a separate facility at the stadium.

If you have tech help desk needs, please email our IT staff at helpdesk@universityacademy.org as we will not have staff in the building to take calls.

We ask that you continue to monitor for symptoms of COVID-19 (including, but not limited to):

·   fever or chills

·   cough

·   headache

·   muscle aches

·   nausea, vomiting or diarrhea

·   new loss of taste or smell

·   new runny nose or congestion

Should you or any member of your family develop any symptoms or concerns of COVID-19, please contact your medical provider immediately to report the illness prior to seeking care. Physician's offices, clinics, hospitals, etc. may have specific protocols in place to aid in the prevention of spreading COVID-19 and other related illnesses. We also ask that you contact the nurses at University Academy to notify us if any symptoms develop.  You can email them at nurses@universityacademy.org.

Per CDC guidelines and recommendations (https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/prevent-getting-sick/prevention.html), the following are some tips to help keep you and your family healthy and protected from COVID-19 and other related illnesses:

·   Wash your hands often. If soap and water are not available, use a hand sanitizer that contains at least 60% alcohol.

·   Avoid close contact. Remain 6 feet away from any individual who is ill and from all individuals who live outside of your home.

·   Cover your mouth AND nose with a mask. You can spread COVID-19 to others even if you do not feel ill. The mask is meant to protect other people in case you are infected.

·   Cover coughs and sneezes. Use a tissue or the inside of your elbow and then wash your hands immediately.

·   Clean and disinfect frequently touched surfaces daily.

·   Monitor your health daily.
