Superintendent Update

Update from the Superintendent
Posted on 07/23/2020
University Academy Parents,

The events of the past few days have sent many local school districts, including UA, scrambling for answers.   The Mayor's announcement that the city is recommending schools delay the start of the school year until September 8th has started a number of conversations internally about what UA can and will do.

We have our reopening plan in place, and we felt confident about that plan.  Our plan was to start school on August 18 and offer both an in-person and virtual track.  However, we must all realize that schools and school districts in the metro area are interconnected in a lot of ways, and what neighboring schools decide to do does impact us and our ability to operate fully staffed.   Many of the districts have already moved their start date back to September 8th.

Next week, after gathering more input from our own staff and local health officials, we will announce any revisions to our plan that may come about, hopefully by next Friday, July 31.

We see the enrollment choice data and we see the strong/majority parent demand for an on-campus option.  But, we have to see if that's still safe and feasible given the spike in COVID-19 cases in the local area.   More to come next week.
