Pre-K Enrollment Now Available!
Posted on 06/03/2019
We are thrilled to announce that UA has partnered with United Inner City Services to offer 20 preschool spots for future UA students.   United Inner City Services will be opening a new preschool, Metro Center, on 39th and Troost this fall. The facility was previously the YMCA’s Metro Early Learning Center.  UICS has a proven track record of operating high quality preK programs.   UICS has operated since 1967 and opened their new facility, St. Mark Child & Family Development Center in 2002 and have served thousands of students and families over the years.

INFORMATION SESSION
An information session will be held  Thursday, June 6 and 3:00pm at University Academy.  Please just check in at the front office by 3:00pm.  UICS and UA will have staff available to present information and answer questions.

APPLICATION PROCESS
Applications will be taken online from June 3 to June 17.  Applications received after June 17 will not be in the lottery.  The lottery will be held in late June.  To apply, go to https://schoolappkc.schoolmint.net/signin.   Existing UA parents can use their current SchoolMint login to complete the application.

Here are some details.

1. To qualify for the preschool seats, the family must qualify for Free or Reduced Lunch.  Here is a form with income guidelines.   Income will need to be verified to complete enrollment.

2. Your child must be 4 years old before August 1, 2019 to qualify for the preschool seat.

3. The preschool will run from 8am -3pm each day.  Preschool during the school year is free.  If you need before school or after school care, and/or care during the summer, that will have to be arranged with UICS and fees might apply.  Financial assistance might be available depending on income.

4. There is no transportation provided for the preschool program.   However, meals and snacks will be provided.

5. The priorities for admissions are:

1st Pool:   Siblings of existing UA students; Children of UA staff; and Children of UA Alumni (must have graduated from UA).

2nd Pool:   Students who live in UA neighborhood pool, which is Cleaver Blvd (north), State Line (west), southern KCPS boundary (south) and Prospect Ave (east).

3rd Pool:   Students that do not qualify for 1st or 2nd round, but live within KCPS boundaries.

6. Any child who qualifies for a UA Pre-K spot does not need to apply to the lottery for UA for Kindergarten.  They will automatically progress to UA's Kindergarten program the next year.

We are very excited to offer this opportunity.  Please bear in mind this is the first time UA has ever operated a Pre-K program.  Recent changes in the law have allowed us the flexibility to do this.  As we roll out this pilot program, I'm sure there will be many questions.  UICS and UA staff will do our best to get those questions answered concisely and quickly.

Sincerely,

Tony Kline, Executive Director and Superintendent             Deidre Anderson, Executive Director
