Athletics - Gryphons Fall Wrap Up
Posted on 11/12/2018
Gryphons fans, the fall season has come to a close and all teams have finished their seasons.  The University Academy Varsity Football team ended their season at the hands of Knob Noster in the district playoffs.  They ended the season with a record of 4-6.  The JV football ended the year at 2-4, while the middle school team ended at 5-2.  There were many post season awards for the Gryphons.  Ryan Pritchard, Damian Ross, Brandon Rhodes, and Trayjon Bagby were all named 1st team All XRC.  Jayden Johnson, Monteze Tatum, Jaevon Drummer, Anwar Smith, and De’Angelo Hawley were named 2nd team and Jaylin Whitleaw and Monteze Tatum were given an honorable mention.  All though the season didn’t go as well as we wanted, we like to say thanks to the seniors for four years of hard work.

The UA Gryphons Varsity Volleyball team ended their season at Districts to Lone Jack.  The Lady Gryphons finished the season 12-14-3 to once again improve on the season before.  They took 3rd Place in the Van Horn Tournament and 2nd Place in the IL Spikefest Tournament.  The JV team had an excellent year going 14-3 as well as placing 2nd in the XRC JV Tournament.  We look forward to great things from them in the future.  The Middle School team also had some success.  The A team went 7-4 and took 3rd in the Nowlin Tournament, while the B team went 4-6 and took 2nd in the Center Tournament.  Again thanks to all the seniors for your dedication.

The UA Gryphons Cross Country team showed lots of progress this year and had one of their most productive teams.  They all improved numerous times on their personal record times and placed many times in meets.  In the Hyman Brand Meet, Elijah Hudson-Moore, Jordan Howard, Ella Miller, and Giacomo Mourning all placed.  In the EA Markley Meet, GIacomo Mourning, Jordan Howard, Ella Miller, and Tyler Lindsey all placed.  And in the Southeast Invitational Meet, Jordan Howard, Tyler Lindsey, and Elijah Hudson-Moore all placed.  In the Swope Park Stampede Meet, Jordan Howard and Tyler Lindsey placed.  Overall it was a successful year for the Gryphons Cross Country teams.

Thank you to all staff, teachers, administrators, and especially parents that made our fall sports run smoothly.  Without all of you, we would not be able to continue our successful athletic programs!
