Justice, Hope, and More To Do

Justice, Hope, and More To Do

Last summer, the world saw George Floyd murdered.   Last night, the world saw accountability and a sliver of justice as Derek Chauvin was convicted on all three counts.   It was an emotional experience to watch the verdicts be read and listen to the aftermath.   We should not have had to be braced for the worst, and it is so sad that millions of Americans were expecting an unjust outcome due to the fact that we have seen unjust outcomes for generations.

I recognize and respect the range of emotions and feelings from all students, parents and staff.  We must also keep in mind that last night's verdict should not be viewed as an end.  If it is, we will have missed an opportunity to better this nation and society.  Rather, it should be viewed more of a beginning to long-term, systematic change that is necessary and just.

University Academy will continue its work and mission to provide the best college prep education to all students and do what we can to improve an education system that is still littered with inequity.
