Online Learning Announcements
Updated 5/11

Hello!
We have arrived at our last week of online learning! Thank you all for working so hard with your child at home. I know that it has been tough but it will give your child a great start to the next school year.
If you would like to continue working during the summer, the websites will still be available to you. Raz Kids will be available until June 17 and Headsprout until June 18. I am not sure when Splash Math will expire because my account just says 2019-2020 school year. I Know It will expire July 14. Continuing to read daily and working on math will help your child be ready for school in August.
Also if you want to continue reading at home, the Kansas City Public Library is offering digital library cards. You can sign up for one here: https://www.kclibrary.org/digital. If you can, download the Libby app and your child will be able to read books from the library on your phone or tablet. The app can be used offline as well as online to read.
The library is also offering story times as well as different activities online here https://www.kclibrary.org/kids-family-activities.
Since Friday is our last day, we will have a dance party via Zoom. Here is the information to join the party. Please let me know, if you have not already, what song your child would like to dance to.

Update 4/20/2020

Welcome to our fifth week of online learning! I want to say thank you to you for putting in all of the time and hard work to complete these assignments.
I have started a Flipgrid account for our class. Flip grid allows us to record video messages to share with each other. Since the kids are not able to talk to each other in person, I thought that this might be a nice way they could converse. Kids are able to record their own message as well as record a video response to another student. To sign in, follow this link and enter your child's first name (First letter capitalized and no apostrophes or other special characters). If you are having trouble signing in, I have updated the login document I sent in March with your child's information.
This week we will be using a new website. The website is I Know It. I have included the link to the website in the assignment as well as information on how to log on. The log on information is also included in the document I sent listing your child's log in information. If you have any questions please let me know.
Our counsellors Mrs. Sanders and Mrs. Hagan have started a google classroom with counselling lessons. If you would like to check it out, please follow these instructions.
Here are the steps for your student to Log In:
1) Go to GoogleClassroom.
2) Click the "+" in the top right corner.
3) Click join class.
4) Write "wzvzs63" in class code and then click join.

Spirit Week next week!
We are excited to announce our Virtual Spirit week for the week of April the 27th! Attached are the details on each day, please have your student dressed for video meetings or send their picture by 2pm each day to their teacher.
We are aiming for 100% participation and the students who participate 4 out of 5 days will be entered in a drawing for a $10 egift card, winner to be announced the following week.
Have a great week!
Ms. Sudo
Update 4/13/2020
Hello families,
I hope you had a great weekend.
There are just a couple of things I wanted to mention this week.
Please remember to click Turn In on your child's Google Classroom assignments. This helps me track what work is getting accomplished.
If your child has missing assignments from before April 13, please do not complete those until you have complete the current week's assignments. Please check the due date on the assignment. If the due date has passed, that is the previous week's work.
Please let me know if you have any questions.
Have a great week!
Ms. Sudo
Update 4/6/2020 Hello Families,
I just wanted to say thank you for all of the hard work you are doing to complete these assignments. I am really enjoying seeing your kids drawings and writing that you attach to the assignments.
This week, please make sure to complete the Reading Assessment on Kids A-Z. When your child logs on, select Reading. Then go to Flight Check. This will allow your child to take the reading assessment. The app will record your child reading the story. Then they will answer some questions at the end.
If you have any questions or concerns about our work so far please let me know!
Have a great week and please tell your kids I miss them!
Ms. Sudo
Update 3/30/2020
Dear families,
First I want to say thank you for all of the hard work you are doing at home! I understand that this is a big transition and I appreciate you working with me.
As I said last week, you will not have to initial the choice board anymore. Please go to the classwork section of google classroom in order to find this week's assignments. Complete the work in the instructions and click turn in. Once you turn it in, I will be able to review your child's work. If you having trouble attaching documents or turning them in, please copy and paste this link to watch a tutorial. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=735v36R3vh8
Keep up the great work and let me know if you have any questions.
Ms. Sudo
Update 3/24/2020

Dear Families,

I hope you are all well. We are two days into our online learning experience, and I have to say it has been a big learning experience for me. Thank you for your patience and all of your hard work so far!

I’ve noticed that editing the weekly choice board and adding photos is proving not to be as easy as I had hoped. So for next week, I have decided that all of the activities will be assignments on Google Classroom. That means that you can just check the Classwork section for all of your child’s assignments. Once you have completed the assignment, just click turn in. This will take the place of initialing the choice board. Also, if I have asked you to take a picture of anything, you can attach it to your child’s assignment before you turn it in. If you need help turning in an assignment, follow this link for instructions on how to turn things in.

I will still post the weekly choice board, but it will only be a reference guide for all of the activities.

Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns.
Thank you,
Ms. Sudo

Dear Families,

I hope this email finds you and your family safe and well. I have been working this week to try and find some ways to keep your students engaged in learning while the school is closed in the coming weeks. This email is going to be long, so please bear with me.

Friday, I sent a document to you that had a list of login information for your child. If you are unable to read the document, please let me know so that I can send it to you in a different form.

Each week your child will receive new assignments in the form of a Weekly Choice Board. This format is much like our monthly homework calendar. Each day you and your child will choose one activity from each of the subject columns to complete. Weekly activities will be completed online through Google Classroom, another website, or offline. Once an assignment is complete from the choice board, please type your initials on the form. I will check the form periodically throughout the week. I will send the form to you and your child through Google Classroom.

To access Google Classroom, you will have to first sign into Gmail using your child’s login and password. Your child has been sent an invitation to join Google Classroom. Please accept this invitation. You can then sign into Google Classroom. Once you have signed into Google Classroom, you will be able to view and edit your child’s Weekly Choice Board. In addition to the Weekly Choice Board, some assignments from the board will be located in the Classwork Section of Google Classroom. Please explore this website and let me know if you have any questions or if it is not working quite right.

Morning Meeting is a part of our school day that builds community in the classroom. I would like to provide your child with some continuity in that regard, so I will be holding a Morning Meeting every morning from 9-9:30 with the kids. I am going to start a group in Google Hangout. Each morning I will send a message through the app, and then I will try a call. If you would like your child to join the Morning Meeting, please sign into your child’s Gmail account and wait for the call.

If you need to speak to me or contact me, please send a message through email or Class Dojo. If you need to talk to me, let’s set up a time to talk through Google Hangout. The hours I will be available are from 9:30-12 and 12:30-3:30.

If you have any difficulties completing the work (ex. can’t sign in, no materials to use at home), please let me know, and I will see what I can do to help.

Please let your kids know that I miss them, and I am excited to hear from them.

Thank you,

Ms. Sudo
