U.A. Players Named to Boys and Girls Basketball All-District Teams

Aliyah Hunter (Junior) was named to the girls’ All-District team.  This is her third time making the All-District Team.   Ashli Hunter (Junior) and Kahliah Hines (Freshman) were named to the 2nd team All-District.
 
Tyler Redmond (Senior) was named to the boys’ All-District team.  He averaged 14.1 ppg, 2.1 apg, 4.2 rbg for the year.   Darius Gault (Junior) was named to the 2nd team All-District after averaging 13.7 ppg and 4.3 apg.
 
Congratulations to the players, as well as to Coach James Jennings and Coach Tiffany Abney for successful seasons.

Varsity Basketball - Girls

2/25 - The girls' varsity basketball team defeated Hogan Prep 39-38 (OT) Congratulations to the Lady Gryphons! The winning point for the first district game was scored by Samiah Hafiz during overtime. Click HERE to watch a video from the game.

1/28 - This past week the University Academy Lady Gryphons faced off in the Washington High School tournament. In the first round the ladies were defeated by Van Horn High School 39-35. In round two the Ladies faced Barstow High School. The Lady Gryphons defeated Barstow 45-36. Playing for the the 5th place title the Lady Gryphons defeated Turner High School 44-23.

1/16 - The Lady Gryphons played Bishop Seabury at University Academy. The Lady Gryphons took the lead early and beat the Lady Seahawks 47-9. The leading scorer was Khaliah Hines.

1/8 - The Lady Gryphons faced off against Barstow at University Academy. The Lady Gryphons won 29-21 against the Lady Knights. The leading scorers were Khaliah Hines and Aliyah Hunter.

1/6 - The Lady Gryphons played Harrisonville at University Academy. The Lady Gryphons worked their way into a 51-43 victory of the Lady Wildcats. The leading scorers were Aliyah Hunter and Khaliah Hines.

1/5 - The Lady Gryphons faced off against Summit Christian at Summit Christian. The Lady Gryphons won 26-22. The leading scorers were Khaliah Hines and Aliyah Hunter.

12/30 - Over the holiday break the Lady Gryphons headed up to St. Joe to participate in the Bishop Leblond Tournament. The Lady Gryphons lost in the first round 48-24. In the second round, they faced Tarkio and won 42-10. The leading scorers were Je'Nique Graham and Aliyah Hunter, and this win allowed the Lady Gryphons to advance for the first time in over eight years to the third day of the tournament. The UA ladies played a close game versus Rockport but ended up losing 50-44. The leading scorers were Khaliah Hines and Je'Nique Graham.

Varsity Basketball - Boys

2/26 - The 2014-2015 Varsity boys basketball season came to a end last night in the semi finals of District play. The Gryphon boys fell to the number one ranked Barstow Knights 74 -53. The Gryphons played inspired basketball, but the Knights of Barstow ultimately won.

The 2014-2015 season went better than many thought it would. The boys finished 13 -11 on the season with many good young players returning. The Gryphons played as a team all season, and it showed all year. The five out-going seniors will be missed for their leadership and play - Nosa Eke, Tyler Redmond, Jaron Mitchell, Trayvon Woods-Gant, and Malik Abdullah. Thanks for a great season Gryphons!

2/23 - The Varsity Boys play February 23rd at the IL field house against KC Central. This is the first round of the District Playoffs. Game time is 5:30pm. University Academy boys won on Senior Night against West Platte. The game started out fast for the Gryphons The Boys went up 14-3 and the first quarter, and continued with a 10 point lead into half time. West Platte hung tough all of the second half, but the Gryphon boys held on to win the game.

2/12 - The University Academy Varsity Boys basketball team is back on the up swing. As the season nears the District Playoff time, the boys are 11-8 for the season and looking to secure a solid seed in District play. The the last few games have been rough without the teams point guard and leading scorer Darius Gault as he had missed the last 5 games with a concussion. He is slated back in the line up on 2/27/2015 against rival Pembroke Hill. The team has been 1-4 without their leader. With the return of Gault, the team feels it chances are very good to finish the season strong.

1/20 - On Friday January 16th, the Gryphon boys varsity basketball team took on the Bishop Seabury Seahawks of Kansas. The Gryphons took off from the start and went on to a easy win 66-30. Everybody on the roster played in this game, and Darius Gault led the scoring with 16 points, Tyler Redmond added 15, and Monta Porter another 14 points. Go Gryphons!

1/9 - The University Academy boys basketball team was glad to be back at home. They had been on the road since December 15, 2014. The team had just come off a tremendous road win at Lee’s Summit Christian, beating the Eagles on Monday. On Tuesday, January 6, 2015 the Class 4 Harrisonville Wildcats were in the building.  The Gryphons started the game fast and jumped out to 18-11 first quarter lead. The game slowed a bit, as UA went in at halftime up 30-23. Harrisonville came out strong in the third quarter, and after three quarters, the Wildcats were up 35-34. The Gryphons came up again in the fourth quarter, and created separation, scoring 20 fourth quarter points. The Gryphon boys went on to win 55-46! Darius Gault led the Gryphons with 24 points, Tyler Redmond with 12, Nosa Eke with 7 points, and Alex Summers chipped in with 6 points. Go Gryphons!

1/5 - On December 19th, the University Academy boys basketball team traveled to Van Horn. The Gryphons started out fast and held a large lead in the first quarter. Van Horn played better in the second quarter, and the large lead was reduced. The Gryphons came out strong again in the third quarter, and played well the rest of the way. The Gryphons held on to win 65-54. Tyler Redmond led the team in scoring with 33 points.

12/16 - The Gryphons basketball team went on the road to Kansas and played Maranatha. The game went as expected in the first quarter as UA went ahead 26-7. Early in the second quarter Darius Gault picked up his second foul and had to sit the rest of the half. During this time, some depth problems appeared, but they went into the half up 32-15. The second half did not go as well, but the Gryphons hung on and won 55-46! Tyler Redmond led the way with 16 points and 11 rebounds. Darius Gault added 15 points. Nosa Eke had 13 points and 10 rebounds, and the freshman Chris Lee chipped in with 10 points. The Gryphons have won three straight games, and have another big road game at Van Horn on Friday, December 19th.

12/1 - The University Academy Lady Gryphons dropped their season opener against Center, 42-36.  The Lady Gryphons were led by Juniors Ashli and Aliyah Hunter.  Ashli scored a team high 15 points, while Aliyah Hunter filled the stat sheet with 8 points, 9 rebounds, 6 assists and 4 steals.  Avionne Jones, a Sophomore, came off the bench to score 9 points. The Lady Gryphons take on Excelsior Springs in the first round of the Eagle Invitational at 5:00pm on December 1, 2014.

The Gryphon boys basketball team opened at home against the Yellow Jackets of Center on November 25th. UA opened strong winning the first quarter 11-5. The game went back and forth during the second period, and Center went into halftime up by three, 26-23.  UA played well for half of the third quarter, but turnovers caught up with the team as they lost the opener 66-46. Darius Gault led all scoring with 19 points, and Nosa Eke led the team in rebounding with 8.

Middle School Basketball

1/30 - The Middle School Lady Gryphons played their final game of the season in tournament play defeating Raytown Middle with a score of 39-30 on Wednesday.  This victory secured the third place trophy.  Leading scorers for the Gryphons were Lisa Thomas, Erianna Townes, Tamya Gibson, Malia Dace, and Kamryn Rivera.  Also contributing to the victory with amazing defense was Daija Butler, Erianna Townes, and Lisa Thomas.  After starting the season 0-4 the Lady Gryphons won 7 of their last 8 games bringing their record to 7-5.  The ladies worked hard every morning to improve their skills and their progress showed at each game.  Thank you for all of your support this season and we look forward to your support during the 2015-2016 season.   

1/28 - The University Academy Lady Gryphons played an great game Monday evening against Raytown Central but lost the game in OT by 2 points.  The Lady Gryphon’s took on Raytown South on Tuesday and defeated them with a score of 44-12.  Leading scorers for the Lady Gryphon’s were Lisa Thomas, Tamya Gibson, Malia Dace and Eriana Townes.  The team played amazing defense but Daija Butler, Eriana Townes, and Lisa Thomas led the way in steals.  Leading the way in rebounds were Denija Carter and Janae Weaver.  The Lady Gryphon’s will take on Raytown Middle School January 28th at 5:15pm.  The girls will be playing for 3rd place.  Come out and show your support.

1/23 - The girls A team defeated Pembroke by 1 point with a final score of 32-31.  Leading scorers for the Lady Gryphons were Lisa Thomas, Tamya Gibson, Erianna Townes, and Janae Weaver.  The B team fell short against Pembroke.  Leading scorers for the B game was Aunna Wolfe and Quanique Pickens.  Come out and support the girls on Monday when they take on Raytown Central at 4:00pm.  The B team will be playing at Raytown Middle School at 5:15pm.  Hope to see you there.

On Thursday, both of the Middle School boys teams defeated Pembroke Hill! B team won 46-17 with Leland Tolbert shooting for 12 points and Jordan Davis adding 10 points. The A team boys enjoyed a 36-30 victory. The A team was led by Jaylin Whitelaw with 18 points and Jordan Howard with 10 block shots.

1/21 - Please congratulate the Middle School girls basketball team on their victory agains Raytown South Middle School!  Leading scorers for the A team were Tamya Gibson with 24 and Lisa Thomas with 17.  Eriana Thomas had 9 steals for the Gryphons.  The final score was 46-26.  Leading scorers for the B team were Aunna Wolfe with 14 and Quanique Pickens with 8.  The final score was 28-8. The Lady Gryphons will take on Pembroke Hill on Thursday, January 22nd.  Please come out and support the Lady Gryphons.

The Middle School boys A team defeated the Raytown South Middle boys in a thriller 28-27. The B team brought in a strong effort but unfortunately lost 28-25. The Middle School boys will play Pembroke on Thursday at Pembroke.

1/20 - On Thursday, the Middle School A team boys defeated Eastgate Middle 36-33, and the B team also won 32-15. Their next game is Tuesday the 20th at 4:00pm against Raytown South at University Academy.

1/14 - Both A and B teams defeated Raytown Middle School on Monday at Raytown.  The A team won 52-20.  Lisa Thomas led the way with 33 points, Tamya Gibson had 8 points, Eriana Thomas and Malia Dace contributed 4 points, and Janae Weaver contributed 3 points.  The B team defeated Raytown 19-13.  Leading scorers were Daija Butler with 7 points, Markieana Wilson with 6 points, and Quanique Pickens with 4.  

Continuing their winning ways, both A and B teams defeated Center at home on Tuesday.  The A team won 43-20.  Lisa Thomas was the leading scorer with 27 points, Tamya Gibson and Malia Dace contributed 5 points to the victory.  The B team defeated the Center Yellow Jackets 18-12.  Leading scorers were Quanique Pickens with 7 points, Kamryn Rivera with 4 points and, Daija Butler with 3 points.  

Please congratulate the Lady Gryphons on two well played games. The Middle School girls play at home on Thursday, January 15th, at 4:00 against Eastgate.  Please come out and show your support.
